Businesses are required and mandatory to register for GST if they are involved in supplying goods or services and their turnover surpasses Rs. 20 lakhs, or if they engage in any interstate transactions, regardless of turnover.

What is GST Registration?
This comprehensive system subsumes multiple taxes into a single framework, governed by the Goods and Services Tax Laws. With GST, goods and services are now subject to taxation under a unified law, simplifying the tax regime. Revenue collection is divided between the Central and State Governments through CGST, SGST, or IGST, ensuring a seamless tax administration process.

The threshold limit for registration
Under GST regulations, businesses must register based on turnover or activities. Entities dealing in goods or services must apply for GST Registration if their annual turnover exceeds Rs. 40 lakhs for goods or Rs. 20 lakhs for services. However, in the North Eastern States, these thresholds are Rs. 20 lakhs for goods and Rs. 10 lakhs for services. Additionally, many dealers opt for voluntary registration due to the benefits it offers.

Input tax credit and lower cost

By obtaining GST registration, suppliers can avail themselves of input tax credit on previous GST payments, reducing input costs and ultimately lowering supply prices. Registered suppliers can also pass on this benefit to consumers.

Required documents for GST Reg.-

  1. Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) of Partners or Directors.
  2. Recent passport-size photographs of the Proprietor/Partners/Directors.
  3. PAN Card copy of the business entity.
  4. Aadhaar Card copy of the Proprietor/Partners/Directors.
  5. Latest utility bill (electricity, tax, municipal khata), serving as proof of address.
  6. Rent agreement (if the premises are rented) or consent letter (if owned).
  7. Latest Bank Statement/cancelled cheque/first page of passbook.
  8. Registration certificate with Memorandum of Association (MoA), Articles of Association (AoA), LLP Agreement, or Partnership Deed, as applicable.
